21 players from Rathmines Junior Chess Club took part in the Novices Division of the Leinster Leagues O’ Connell Cup.
23 teams in total entered from, Blanchardstown, Elm Mount, Shankhill, Naomh Barrog, Colaiste Eanna, Malahide and Skerries. Games took place over four Sundays, with four players per team. Rathmines Kings, Knights and Queens represented Rathmines. The Queen’s are an all girls team of seven, the only all girls team in the Leinster Leagues.
Several players were top scorers on their boards.
Board prizes were won by Stephen Higgins and Dara Lynch on the Rathmines Knights team.
There was an individual tournament held on the last day, the senior section was won by Henry Li and in the junior section Alex Mulligan came third.
