Rathmines Chess Club are very proud of the junior chess squad competing in Greece at the World Championships.
Especially our own club members Fiachra, Michael, Stephen, Ciaran, Anjali and Dayna
We wish you all the best of luck in all your games and hope you have a fantastic tournament. It is a great achievement to reach this standard and be selected to play for your country. So go out there and enjoy every minute.
This is a great squad of plyers who have played together over many competitions over the last number of years, particularly in the recent Glorney and Faber Competition, where Ireland came 1st in the Glorney, and Robinson Cup and tied first in the Faber. Also many of them played together in Milfield in the UK representing Gonzaga and St. Benildus where they took first place in both the Championship and Minor sections. They have a fantastic attitude and committment,
Go team Ireland.

The Irish team returned from the World Yoths in Greece today. All 18 players performed very well as you can see in the chart above. It is great to see such strong performances across all the age groups and it is very promising for the future. By all accounts it was also a very positive and enjoyable event both on and off the boards. Congratulations to you all for your tremendous efforts and achievement.
Article on Chessdom about Anjali Walsh
Check out this wonderful article (link above) on Chessdom.com.. 8-year old Anjali Walsh is one of the many players currently competing in the massive FIDE World Youth & Cadets 2015 in Porto Carras. She is together with 111 girls of her age in the U10 group.
Anjali, however, is not just another chess player. She is passionate about chess and all aspects of the game even at such early age. Last spring, Irish citizens Anjali and her brother Ciaran Walsh traveled from their hometown of Seattle, USA, with their emigrant dad to visit their Irish grandfather and to play in the world-famous Bunratty Chess Festival held in a small village in the west of Ireland. Before that tournament, while 10-year-old Ciaran visited their grandfather’s childhood home near the Cliffs of Moher, 8-year-old Anjali together with other chess trainers including her dad successfully participated in a rigorous 3-day FIDE TRG Trainers’ Seminar taught by FST Kevin O’Connell. This seminar was followed by a tough written exam.
I8 Boys and Girls are representing Ireland in the World Championship Groups between the ages of u8 to u18.
