In breaking news tonight, it has been reported that Eoghan Turner and Stephen Higgins have been awarded 2nd and 3rd place respectively in the Irish u10 Junior Chess Championships. Congratulations to both on a fantastic result.
Congratulations to Michael Higgins who has just finished on 5.5 out of 6 to win the Irish u12 title.
News is still coming in from Shannon with results from the u10, 12, 14 and u16/19 championships. It was a great weekend for Chess in Leinster, with representatives from Rathmines, Shankhill, Gonzaga, Blanchardstown and St. Benildus performing well.
In the u12’s Michael Higgins was the clear winner on 5.5pts. Ross Beatty came 2nd with 5pts and Fiachra Scallan, Jim O’ Reilly and Padraig Hughes 3rd on 4.5pts. Dierdre Turner was the top scoring Girl on 3.5
In u10’s Adam Murphy 1st, and half a point behind them Eoghan Turner 2nd and Stephen Higgins joint 2rd and recieved 3rd place trophy. Alex Mulligan finished on 4 and Ciara Scallan was the top scoring girl. Nikita Koush and Sean Hunter also scored 3.5. Leo Norris scored an impressive 2 points in his first ever weekend tournament,
The u14’s was won outright by Conor O’Donnell on 6 out of 6. Diana Mirza came 2nd and Jeffery Alfred 3rd. Scott Mulligan scored 3.5 and Liam Coman and Oscar Twomey scored 3pts.
Cillian Scallan represented Rathmines in the u8’s and scored 3points,
