14 players from Rathmines Juniors, and many from Rathmines Senior club, took part in the Gonzaga Classic. Divided between the Challengers and the Majors there were impressive results. Check out the results on the link below.
The Challengers was won by Eoghan Turner on 5.5/6. Eoghan took a bye in round one and then went on to win all five matches against very strong opposition. In particular, his last round against Seam McLoughlin, who up to this point had won all his games and only needed a half a point to win the tournament, Eoghan put up a very strong battle. He remained calm and composed throughout to win the game in style. Henry Li, a very recent newcomer to our club, won the grading prize, with 4points.
In the Championship section, Michael Higgins was the highest placed junior club member with a score of 4, while his father, Paul, member of Rathmines Seniors secured second place in the event on 5/6. Strong performances also from Scott and Fiachra, who was playing up a section.
